A Name For Our Boy

Our baby boy has been named.

:)

I enjoyed the naming process.  Everything about it was sweet.  I loved texting name ideas with Troy throughout the day....  or falling asleep at night while naming off suggestions.  I loved scratching names off the list one by one....  I loved our "test runs" where we would spend the day calling him a certain name.... just to see how well it fit.  I loved how family and friends would randomly send names throughout the day.

It was a fun pregnancy memory!

But honestly.....   we knew the right name all along.  All of the other names were just testers.

Our list of boy names was never very long.  We both like older, traditional names.  We didn't want anything trendy....  or faddish....  just something strong, sophisticated....and if at all possible...(though hard to accomplish with this style of name!), a bit sweet.

At one point the list looked something like this.......

Graham
Oliver
Henry
Edwin
Owen
Charles
Emmett
Benjamin

But one by one, the names were erased.

Oliver and Edwin were the last two to be scratched.

It seemed that even our traditional names were becoming a bit trendy.

But there was one name that remained on the list from the very beginning....a name that we never could seem to eliminate...

a name that, for us, stood alone.

The name...

Walt

We adore it for so many reasons.

We love that it's traditional, yet very rarely heard.

We think that it's strong..... sophisticated, and classic.

We think that it's special.

The perfect name for our boy.

And ....

...we can't deny that we love it for very special and sentimental reasons.....

Walt.....

Classic, strong, ...... AND ....due to its very special and sentimental meaning ....

a touch of sweet.

It's exactly what we had hoped for in a name.

For the middle name, we have chosen

Monroe

....after Troy's father (George Monroe Davis).  He was counting the days until he could meet his grand baby.  He passed weeks before we learned it was a boy.  We are so honored to give Walt a part of is Grandfather...  a grandfather that would have loved and cherished him so very much.

And because Troy and I both tease that it will sound better when he runs for president  ;-)....we have chosen to give him the official name of Walter....  and call him Walt.

We hope that one day he'll be as proud of his name as we are....

Walter Monroe Davis

I wrote his initials for the first time the other day "WMD," and said to Troy...  "hey...look...if he follows in his Father's footsteps....  he already has the MD in his name!"

Troy repeated the initials allowed "WMD..."  and in true Troy fashion replied....  "Weapons of Mass Destruction.....that's so awesome."

;)

I still get tickled when we use his name....as does Troy.  I love to see how big he smiles if I say "can you take this to Walt's room" .....or ..  "do you think Walt would like this?"  And I love to hear Troy call him by name when he talks to him (my belly)....  or to see it in writing when he sends a text saying that he loves Walt and I.

I'm glad that his name feels perfect to us.

That's all for now!

Thank you for reading!

Love,

Kristin
